Commercial
A day rate, plus creative direction, plus the licence.
Licensing is priced on reach, not hours. It is the same reason licensing a song for an advert costs more than playing it at home: the work is the same, what you do with it is not.
The licence is priced on three things: the channel it runs on, how far it reaches, and for how long. Organic social on your own accounts is included and never expires.
Public sector and grants
Billed hourly by role and itemised for audit, on Net 30. Captioning is included, and no retainer is requested.
Procurement details and terms →The terms, in short
- You receive a licence to use the finished work for the purposes you select. Copyright stays with the creator.
- The retainer reserves your date and covers pre-production. It is non-refundable, and it transfers in full if you reschedule at least fourteen days out.
- Standard delivery is seven to ten days from the shoot. Rush is 48 hours and pushes other work back, which is what it costs more for.
- Two rounds of revisions are included. A round is one consolidated set of notes, not a note at a time.
- Your gallery stays live for twelve months. Download everything before then — after that, restoring from archive is a separate fee.
- Detroit’s general film permit is free. Private venues sometimes charge, and that goes through at cost with the receipt attached — disclosed before the balance, never added on shoot day.
Not included
- Venue or private-property location fees, which go through at cost with the receipt.
- Talent, models, and stylists, which are quoted separately when you want them.
- Music licensing beyond the standard commercial library.
- Printing, media buying, or ad placement.
- Travel beyond Metro Detroit, billed at the IRS standard mileage rate.
Needed from you
- A contact who can approve on the day.
- Location access confirmed, including any building or security clearance.
- Wardrobe, props, and product in hand before the call time.
- Logos and brand assets in vector, if graphics are part of the delivery.
- One consolidated set of revision notes per round.
Fair questions
- That is more than I expected.
- Then the scope is wrong, not the rate. There is a smaller product that does one job well — a single-setup session instead of a campaign day. Build the smaller version and the estimate updates line by line. Tell me which outcome matters most and I will scope to it.
- Can you do it cheaper if we give you credit?
- Credit is standard on my work and does not change the rate. What does change it is scope: fewer setups, a shorter day, or organic-only usage instead of paid.
- Another shooter quoted half that.
- Probably for a different thing. Compare the licence and the delivery, not the day. A cheaper day with organic-only rights costs more the moment you run it as an ad.
- Can we just buy the raw files?
- Raw footage changes what you can make later, so it is priced with the rights rather than as an add-on. Tell me what you want to be able to do with it and I will quote that.
